The Associate Forester position is key in ensuring safe and productive management of customer funded vegetation control practices.  Successful candidates are skilled at vegetation control methods, tree risk assessment and integrated vegetation management practices.  Associate foresters will scope work, set priorities, and seek out improvements while holding contractors accountable to PGE’s expectations.  As PGE vegetation management representatives, you will provide utility expertise for tree crews, respond to customer concerns, build municipal contacts, and engage with internal stakeholders.     

Responsibilities

  • Perform Safety and QA/QC audits
  • Help set work priorities across a geographic region
  • Detailed work layout and notes, identify areas of focus and proactively engage with customer, municipality, and internal customer concerns
  • Ensure compliance to PGE specifications through formal QA/QC process
  • Weekly data entry and billing audits
  • Respond to and dispatch storm work and investigate vegetation caused outages
  • Extensive field time and project management skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-year degree (4 year preferred) in forestry, natural resources, horticulture, or related earth sciences field
  • Typically, two or more years in related forestry or arboriculture job field including vendor and project management
  • Valid Oregon driver’s license

Desired Qualifications

  • Licensed International Society of Arborist (within 6 months of hire)
  • Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultants License (within 6 months of hire)
  • Familiar with Oregon tree ID and growth characteristics
  • Direct and provide guidance on proper application of licensed herbicides
  • Utility hardware and basic electric grid operations
  • Ability to hike and traverse rough terrain safely over long distances
  • Intermediate knowledge of utility forestry best practices
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal guidance
  • Basic Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, ArcGIS, Collector programs experience
  • Working knowledge of Vegetation LiDAR information
  • Ability to work long hours, often during severe inclement weather
  • Ability to work on call shifts
