Park Maintenance Crew Leader- Forestry
Location: Plano, TX
Salary: $24.01-$33.62/hr (depending on experience)
• Identifies and assesses trees for diseases and defects of trees located in parks, medians, rights-of-way, and public grounds.
• Leads assigned maintenance personnel and participates in the removal and/or trimming of very large and potentially hazardous trees.
• Participates in the removal, trimming and preventative maintenance activities of all trees located in parks, medians, rights-of-way, and public grounds.
• Directly responsible for the safety of the forestry crew and public by properly securing work sites and ensuring appropriate safety apparatuses are in place during all maintenance activities.
• Operates specialized and heavy equipment required in the upkeep and operation of areas of responsibility. Operates and maintains potentially hazardous power equipment, including chainsaws, to trim and remove trees.
• Inspects and maintains assigned equipment.
• Maintains compliance with departmental service request and work management system.
• Utilizes the asset management system to maintain accurate records of work against trees in the field and tree removals with special attention given to maintaining accurate inventory of the urban forest canopy. Coordinates as required with other Parks and City staff to effectively organize scheduled work. May participate in the inspection of work performed by outside forestry contractors to verify compliance with contractual specifications.
• Provides emergency assistance to other City departments as needed.
• May assist in the support and supervision of department and City-sponsored special events along with other park duties and activities as needed.
• May lead or assist with the work activities of assigned maintenance personnel in other park maintenance tasks outside of forestry.
• Attend continuing education events as needed or required to maintain certifications.
• Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential, as the forestry crew is called on as an essential group to respond to damage caused by inclement weather events such as ice, snow, rain and wind.
Experience
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in forestry, including six (6) months of experience supervising others.
