Position Summary:
Portland Parks & Recreation Urban Forestry (UF) is expanding tree planting programming to increase canopy and reduce urban heat, focused on reaching underserved communities. The UF Planting Team will expand and hire new employees in a range of entry-level to advanced positions. UF will also establish new contracts with companies and non-profits to plant, water, and care for trees.
 
The Training Coordinator plays a key role in expanding capacity for tree planting. Initially, this new position will assist with recruiting and hiring new employees and contractors. There is an acute labor shortage, and women and people of color are severely underrepresented in the urban forestry sector. The Coordinator will develop and implement strategies to hire and retain a diverse workforce.

The Coordinator will also create and implement training plans for employees and contractors with varying levels of experience. Training topics will be wide ranging and include safety, inclusive workplace culture, tree planting, establishment, and project management. As the planting team develops, this position will evolve and expand.
