Part-Time Arborist Assistant

Location: San Jose, CA
Salary: $30 - $45/HR DOE

OVERVIEW
Looking for part-time assistance to collect tree biometric data at a variety of residential, commercial, and natural sites throughout the year on an as-needed basis. Work performed in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Work would be done with support of experienced arborists. Some basic ecological literacy is a must. Knowledge of some common tree species is useful but not required. Training and basic tools will be provided. Opportunity to grow within the business. Staff need their own transportation.

Duties:
1. In-field Data collection and in-office data entry for tree inventories/surveys.
2. Potential to create plan maps using Adobe InDesign.
3. Potential for hands-on fine gardening work and small tree pruning.
4. Based on level of arboricultural experience, potential for training in report-writing, consultations, and other assessments.
 

Desired Qualifications
5. Ability to do outdoor work, in a variety of weather conditions, sometimes moving through brush, uneven ground, and traversing steep slopes.
6. Basic knowledge of the benefits of trees and some education on arboriculture, ecology, horticulture, and/or natural resources.
7. Adept at using Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Adobe is a plus.
8. Proficiency at technical writing is a plus.
