Tree Work Safety Competency Evaluator

Location: Oroville, CA

Summary

Working under the direction of the NATS Director of Safety Consulting and collaboratively with the NATS Skills Yard Manager and NATS Leadership Team, the Qualified Evaluator is responsible for verifying the competency of workers in California.

Essential Functions

  • Perform competency verifications for Vegetation Management stakeholders in alignment with allfederal, state, local laws, applicable national consensus standards, and industry best practices.
  • Evaluate and document worker’s hands-on-skills, knowledge, and abilities through infield safetyobservations.

  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment
  • .Ability to perform tasks under pressure and in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to ensure security of company assets and infrastructure.
  • Experience in safe use of hand and power tools to perform construction of skills yard infrastructure andmake repairs as necessary.
  • Experience in operation of heavy equipment such as telehandler, skid steer, and mobile elevated workplatforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to facilitate effective communication and active listening among all stakeholders.

Work Environment

The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • High paced in-field site work in California.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Outdoor elements such as heat, cold, precipitation, and wind.
  • Noisy environments and hazardous conditions


Required Education and Experience

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Five (5) years of experience in the arboriculture industry
  • One (1) year in trainer or safety position
  • Five (5) years performing work relevant to assessments
  • Can perform assessments and pass with competent rating, (evaluated by qualified Evaluator)
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR / First Aid
  • OSHA 30
  • Certified Tree care Safety Professional (CTSP) or Consulting Utility Forester Safety Professional (CUFSP)
  • Electric Hazard Awareness Program (EHAP)
