Tree Service Technician

ENTRY-LEVEL SALARY: $38,788 annually

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in horticultural or arboricultural operations that includes tree maintenance, rigging/climbing trees, and operating equipment necessary to perform tree maintenance duties.
- Valid Class A Tennessee Commercial Driver's License is required within 6 months of hire.
- Applicant must become an ISA Certified Arborist or TCIA Certified Tree Safety Professional within 12 months of hire and maintain certification as a condition of continued employment.
- Applicant must currently possess CPR and First Aid certifications or obtain during the probationary period and be recertified annually.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works as part of a crew pruning dead, broken, misshapen, interfering and undesired tree parts according to ISA Standards using handsaws, power chainsaws and other specialty and common tools and equipment used in the forestry trade.
Is primarily responsible for the safe removal and pruning of trees as needed according to ANSI and industry standards.
Operates and assists with bucket truck control in tree pruning and removal performed from an aerial lift bucket truck.
Responds to storm damage calls when trees are blocking City streets, sidewalks, or other access to public property or causing other safety related issues.
Ensures safety of the crew while on the job site (i.e. sets up traffic diversion devices and signage to gain access to and isolate work zones, understands exit routes and proper safe distance from felling trees, understands proper rigging when working aloft, and wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE)).
Communicates with other crew members via a job briefing to discuss the plan for executing tasks and work orders and to determine potential hazards and obstacles, such as utilities, pedestrians, vehicles, structures, traffic or other equipment that could affect the safe execution of their duties.
Coordinates or directs other semi-skilled workers with oversight of the work area with procedures established by supervisors.
Performs other Urban Forestry duties as requested.
Loads, transports, and unloads trees, equipment and supplies from vehicles.
Sharpens hand tools using a grinding tool, hand file, or other device as needed to ensure safe working condition and performs preventative maintenance on chainsaws and other equipment as needed.
Performs preventative maintenance on chainsaws and other equipment as needed.
Keeps work area free of debris as needed.
Performs arboricultural practices utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and other industry safety standards and ensures and directs other semi-skilled workers to utilize proper safety equipment.
