Supervises one of three Forest Conservation teams comprised of 2-4 Urban Forester I's and II's within the Urban Forest Management Division. Coordinates and monitors the review of zoning cases and construction plans. Provides technical expertise on tree preservation and landscaping requirements as they relate to the Fairfax County Zoning Ordinance and Tree Conservation Ordinance. Provides direction and technical expertise on County Code and vegetation related matters. Inspects construction sites for conformance with approved construction plans. Prepares written and oral responses for queries received from the Board of Supervisors, other county agencies, citizens, developers and civil engineers and others. Monitors the performance of the Urban Forester I's and II's and provides coaching and training to manage job performance levels. Implements procedures and training needed to improve program effectiveness and provide superior customer service. Participates in the development and implementation of strategic planning initiatives. Delivers training and presentations to staff, industry and community groups. Reviews, negotiates, and recommends for approval for A/E contracts. Supports tree commission projects and meetings. Assist in the implementation of the county’s tree risk assessment program. Prepares amendments to county code and land-use policies. Ensures that County and Division safety policies, programs, and initiatives are followed by all staff.
