Field Forester

Location: Ashland, MO
Salary:

Heartland Forest Consulting, LLC is seeking a qualified candidates to fill the position of Field Forester. The position is considered full-time. Most work is located in central Missouri, although some travel is required. A 4-year or Bachelor’s degree program in Forestry or a related Natural Resource field is required. No experience is necessary; however, experienced foresters are encouraged to apply.

 

Job Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of the Consulting Forester, Field Forester will:

-Conduct Forest Stand Improvement using various methods, including cut/girdle with a chainsaw, and “hack-and-squirt”.

-Properly apply herbicides to control invasive exotic species.

-Collect and analyze forest inventory data using forest inventory software.

-Cruise and mark timber for harvest.

-Prepare maps and analyze data using GIS software.

-Write stand management prescriptions and develop forest management plans.

-Work as part of a team to safely conduct prescribed burns.

-Communicate with current clients.

-Other general duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required

-4-year or Bachelor’s degree program in Forestry or related Natural Resource field.

-Ability to work outside in weather extremes.

-Self-motivated and independent, but also able to work as part of a team.

-Good communication and writing skills.

 

Qualifications and Skills Preferred

-Experience with operating a chainsaw in a safe and efficient manner.

-Experience with GIS software.

-Missouri Pesticide Applicator’s License, category 2.

-Starting pay will be dependent on qualifications.
