ABOUT MERLIN ARBORIST GROUP
We are a fully licensed and insured arboricultural company based in Sonoma County that works with commercial, residential, municipal, and agricultural clients. Our family-run business is dedicated to providing clients with the highest level of tree care. Our staff is highly trained and knowledgeable and ready to exceed all tree care needs. Our credentials include Board Certified Master Arborist, Certified Arborist, and Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ) through the International Society of Arboriculture and a Registered Consulting Arborist through the American Society of Consulting Arborists.

THE ROLE
We are seeking an entry-level or experienced ground crew worker to join our team. The candidate must be a growth-minded individual with a strong attention to detail and safety. An ideal candidate would be a clear communicator who is flexible, able to prioritize, multi-task and troubleshoot problems. They should be able to work independently and switch gears between multiple responsibilities and projects to support a team.
On any given day you will assist with tree operations including clearing brush, removing trees, planting trees, operating equipment and basic traffic control functions as directed by the crew foreman. Candidates are required to participate in monthly staff meetings and weekly safety trainings.
We support our employees’ growth and development in the tree care industry including training and certifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain issued personal gear and uniform
- Care, operate, and maintain a variety of equipment and power tools
- Communicate effectively with other crew members and the public
- Attend weekly safety training and willing to pursue additional training and certification as needed
- Ensure the safety of all operations, job sites, employees and the general public which might come into contact with the area
- Comply with company policies and ANSI/OSHA regulations for tree care operations, including wearing all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as provided by the company
- Lift and haul branches and logs, rake, remove debris and clean-up
- Perform basic methods and techniques of tree climbing, pruning, removal and planting
- Drive trucks with trailers (manual transmission), including daily safety inspection before and after operating
REQUIREMENTS
- Highly motivated and have a positive attitude
- Work outdoors year-round in both hot and cold conditions
- Work on all types of terrain and regularly lift/drag/pull 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Stretch and utilize proper lifting techniques
- Valid California driver license and a good driving record
- Reliable transportation
- Not required but helpful:
- Arborist certification or genuine interest in the field of arboriculture
- Knowledge of tree and shrub ID, plant health care and insect/pest disease
- Experience in the field of gardening, arboriculture or landscape design
- Safely operate a chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder, log splitter, bucket truck, other heavy equipment and power tools
- Use proper pruning techniques using chainsaws, pole saws, pole pruners and loppers
- Assist the climber in the removal and lowering trees safely
- Hook up to trailers, tow and back-up trailers
