Production Manager – Tree Removal Operations

Location: Jackson, New Jersey
Salary: $90K - $110K Plus Bonus and Company Vehicle

Position Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all residential and commercial field operations related to tree removal, pruning, emergency response, and related services. This position ensures that crews operate safely, efficiently, and profitably while fostering Aspen’s reputation for quality tree care, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining the highest industry standards.

The Production Manager is the conduit between sales and production. They serve as the direct leader of crew foremen, climbers, equipment operators, and ground personnel, ensuring jobs are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all company safety policies, ANSI Z133, and A-300 standards.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Key Accountability

The Production Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring that sold work is accurately scheduled, properly staffed, equipped with the necessary resources, and completed within the estimated man-hours while maintaining safety, quality, and profitability standards.

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules for all residential and commercial tree care operations using our CRM software.
  • Review estimates and sold work with Sales Representatives to verify accuracy, scope, access requirements, equipment needs, appropriate crew size, traffic control requirements, and anticipated production hours.
  • Schedule jobs to maximize crew efficiency, equipment utilization, and profitability.
  • Communicate schedule changes, weather delays, and production updates to customers, sales staff, and field crews.
  • Coordinate daily production activities including manpower, trucks, chippers, cranes, aerial lifts, stump grinders, and subcontractors to meet goals.
  • Conduct job site visits to monitor production, quality, and safety.
  • Ensure all necessary permits, utility notifications, and customer requirements are addressed before work begins.
  • Direct employees in proper maintenance and care of trucks, chippers, stump grinders, cranes, lifts, and other equipment.
  • Efficiently coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance with the on-staff mechanic.
  • Participate in production meetings with sales and management teams to review backlog, upcoming work, staffing needs, and operational challenges.
  • Monitor job progress and adjust schedules as needed to maximize efficiency.
  • Ensure work is completed according to scope, quality standards, and customer expectations.
  • Monitor production versus estimated man-hours and identify opportunities for improved estimating accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with emergency storm response operations when required.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor foremen and crew members.
  • Conduct regular crew meetings and safety briefings.
  • Assist with onboarding and training field personnel.
  • Identify future leaders and develop employee growth plans.
  • Address performance issues promptly and professionally.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with the safety coordinator to enforce all company safety policies and procedures.

Financial & Productivity Management

  • Monitor labor efficiency and productivity metrics.
  • Align daily operations to secure company production goals and profitability targets.
  • Review daily production reports and crew performance.
  • Manage overtime and labor costs effectively.
  • Assist management in maintaining target man-hour production rates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Master and leverage proficiency in the utilizationof tree care CRM, Single-Ops.

Customer Service

  • Maintain professional communication with customers.
  • Resolve job site concerns and service issues promptly.
  • Ensure crews maintain a professional appearance and represent the company positively.
  • Support sales personnel by providing operational feedback and production timelines.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of tree care /removal or green industry experience.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong understanding of tree removal, pruning, rigging, and equipment usage.
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133 safety standards and A-300 tree care standards.
  • Valid Real ID driver's license.   
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead multiple crews simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate scheduling and production management software

Preferred

  • CDL Class A or B.
  • Experience with scheduling and production management software.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Beneficial Qualifications

  • ISA Certified Arborist certification.
  • TCIA training CTSP and familiarity with accreditation.  
  • OSHA 30 certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to visit active job sites and inspect work areas.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, walk uneven terrain, and access work zones safely.
  • Ability to respond to emergency storm events, including extended work hours.
