Campus Arborist, Facilities Services

POSITION TITLE: Groundskeeper III – Campus Arborist

DEPARTMENT: Grounds and Landscape Services

REPORTS TO: Grounds Manager

SALARY: $23.55-$24.66

FLSA DESIGNATION: Hourly/Non-exempt

SCHEDULE: Full Time (1.0 FTE) | 12 months | 40 hours per week

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Campus Arborist performs skilled and technical maintenance for all trees and shrubs on University owned property. This includes pruning, diagnostics, treatment of insect and disease, fertilization, planting, transplanting, removal, and nursery management. This position provides leadership to the Tree Committee and manages the University certification as a Tree Campus USA.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Arboriculture | 60%

2. Groundskeeping | 20%

3. Supervisory | 10%

4. Other | 10%

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or GED.

• International Society of Arboriculture Certification in any of the following:

- Certified Arborist

- Certified Arborist Municipal Specialist

- Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist

- Three years’ professional experience in arboriculture and plant health care, including but not limited to pruning, planting, spraying, plant health care and diagnostics.

• Current pesticide applicator’s license based on Washington State requirements required or achieve requirement within 6 months of employment.

• Demonstrated growth in cultural competence, awareness of societal and structural inequities and proven experience in effectively establishing relationships and positive communications with students and other constituents across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, varying abilities, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, class or religious perspectives.

• Availability for callback and emergency duties, including but not limited to snow removal.

• A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.

• A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church.

• Valid driver’s license.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associates degree in horticulture, biology or closely related field desirable.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A background check, sexual misconduct check and confirmation of degrees earned will be required of the successful candidate. A resume, cover letter, faith statement, and names and phone numbers of at least three (3) professional references will also be required.
