Assistant Forester

Location: Albany, NY

The Assistant Forester reports to the City Forester and together they are responsible for day to day field operations of the City’s Forestry Division (including work assignments and quality control, field supervision, staff training and discipline, equipment maintenance and trouble-shooting, etc).  Like the crews, Foresters alternate weeks being on call to respond to tree emergencies.  In emergency situations they are expected to be able to lead from the fore, including driving and operating equipment (chain saws, bucket trucks, log loaders).  Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (Class B or Higher with an air brakes endorsement) is required within six months of employment.  Line Clearance Tree Trimmer Training and Certification is required, but will be provided by the City.   For the full job description and to apply online, please see https://jobs.albanyny.gov/jobopps
