Apprentice Tree Mover / Field Crew Member

Location: Scandia, MN
Salary: $16-20+/hour

Summary

Environmental Design Inc. is the premier large tree installation and heritage tree relocation company in the world. Using our patented Arborlift method, EDI has relocated many of the largest and oldest trees ever successfully moved, such as a 4000 year old brĂ­stlecone pine, a 110’ sequoia planted by John Muir, and a live oak with a 1.2 million pound rootball. 

EDI North is seeking an apprentice tree mover / field crew member to assist with regional tree moving operations. EDI North specializes in 8”+ caliper installations and relocations using custom-engineered equipment and the largest truck mounted tree spades available.

Responsibilities

  • Assist crew in mobilization, digging, loading, installation, irrigation, and follow-up care

  • Operate equipment including: large truck mounted tree spades, tele-handler, excavator, skid steer, chainsaw, air spade

  • Perform physical labor including: mulching, digging, tree tying, pruning, lifting 50+ pounds

  • Maintain and repair trucks and equipment

  • Drive pickup truck and trailer with equipment to job sites

  • Clean and organize shop and yard

Minimum Qualifications

  • Standard driver’s license and ability to pass DOT physical/drug test

  • 1-2 years work experience in a related field

  • Experience driving with a trailer

  • Ability to work well with a team and independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in horticulture, urban forestry, or related field

  • 3-5 years experience in landscaping, tree care, tree nursery, industrial rigging, trucking, etc.

  • CDL A with no restrictions

  • Commercial driving experience with manual transmission, air brakes, semi-tractor, roll-off truck, etc. 

  • Large equipment operation and/or maintenance experience

  • ISA Certified Arborist

Schedule

  • Seasonal work in the upper Midwest available April-December, travel work available through winter

  • 45-55 hour weeks are typical during the busy season

  • Overtime is available the majority of the year, but generally not required

  • Approximately 10-20% travel required, mostly in the upper Midwest
