Park Specialist 1 - Arborist

Are you an urban forestry professional ready to join one of the Pacific Northwest's premiere programs? Eugene's Urban Forestry program is part of the Green Infrastructure Section of the Parks and Open Space Division within Public Works. The Green Infrastructure Section is focused on services within the public right-of-way including the urban forest, green stormwater facilities, vegetated medians and specialty landscapes.
 
The City of Eugene is located in the Willamette Valley, which offers a wide range of recreational activities to residents and visitors. Home to the University of Oregon, Eugene is a progressive community with engaged residents, a vibrant arts community and is known as Track Town USA; hosting national and international track and field events. Eugene offers many of the amenities of a larger city while retaining the feel and characteristics of a smaller city including a strong sense of community and a short commute to work with little traffic congestion.
 
Eugene's Urban Forestry program is primarily responsible for approximately 85,000 street trees. Urban Forestry's mission is to maximize the social, economic and environmental benefits of Eugene's urban forest and to minimize its costs and liabilities by means of adaptive management and community engagement.
 
The Urban Forestry team is comprised of  nine municipal arborists in a range of classifications from Park Specialists,  Natural Systems Specialists and Management Analyst. The team is highly credentialed, most recently obtaining accreditation by Society of Municipal Arborists. Every member of the team is an ISA Certified Arborist and many hold multiple additional ISA certifications including Municipal Specialists,  Tree Risk Assessors,  Tree Worker/Climber Specialists and  Board Certified Master Arborists.
 
Must maintain an active telephone number and be available and respond to emergency call-backs, as required.

Experience:
One year manual work in grounds keeping, parks and/or natural area maintenance.  Preference given to experience in arboriculture,
