The University of Texas Golf Club - Arborist/Climber

Location: Austin, TX
Salary: $25 / HR ++ overtime

The University of Texas Golf Club(UTGC) is a private golf club located in Steiner Ranch in Northwest Austin, TX.  UTGC has a very healthy native Oak tree population, as well as, several other native hardwoods throughout the property.  In an effort to create a balanced turfgrass and tree ecosystem, we are seeking a qualified arborist or tree care foreman to assists us in sustaining and enhancing our beautiful tree’s throughout the golf course property.

  1. Ability to climb trees using rope & harness, and comfortability with knots and all safety equipment
  2. Experience using all types of power tools and hand tools.  Training and efficiency in all sizes and varieties of chainsaws, pole saws, & hand pruners.
  3. Proper pruning techniques and dead wood removal of tree canopies
  4. Tree removal, clearing, and topping
  5. Stump grinding and firewood processing
  6. Operating chippers, mowers, bush hogs, and other maintenance equipment
  7. Ensuring safety and care for equipment is top priority
  8. Any other duties and training required throughout the season


  • Proven experience, including climbing. This is not an entry level position.
  • Understanding of trees, plant material, grasses, & vegetation.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate pesticides & fertilizers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately.
  • Detail oriented with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Pruning & cultivation techniques
  • Ability to obtain arborist certification through ISA.
  • Bilingual – English & Spanish preferred
