Since 1879, Fort Collins has been the home of the state’s land grant institution, Colorado State University, which currently enrolls 34,000 students. Along with the university, the city’s major high-tech and manufacturing companies and breweries attract new residents from all over the country and world. The community’s overall social diversity continues to grow.

The nearby Horsetooth Reservoir is a key attraction, as is the Cache La Poudre-North Park Scenic Byway. Job Summary

Work related to the maintenance of the City's urban forestry program. Areas of focus include: plant health care, insect and disease control programs, scheduled inspections, and problem diagnosis and treatment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

• Performs all tasks relating to the City’s Planning & Development Review processes on behalf of the Forestry Division.
• Utilizes, updates and advances the usefulness of the Forestry tree inventory system.
• Assists with or oversees contract development and implementation.
• Participates in Forestry Division educational outreach, initiates or responds to personal customer contacts, makes formal presentations and may proctor industry certification tests as necessary.
• Works with local arborist licensing candidates, educating them on Forestry Arborist Licensing process and requirements; this position has authority to issue Forestry Arborist Licenses to companies that have fulfilled all licensing requirements, on behalf of the Forestry Lead Specialist or City Forester.
• Leads or assists in detecting and/or responding to Municipal Code violations; includes preparation of notifications for removal of infested, infected or dangerous trees on private property.
• Interacts personally and professionally with internal and external groups to promote the City’s urban forest management strategic goals and objectives.
• Assists with or oversees the implementation of the City's Emerald Ash Borer Management and Response Plan.

• Strong understanding of pest management and plant diagnostics is preferred.
• Ability to use, or learn to use, all tools related to implementing or updating Forestry's asset management/inventory system.
• Ability to safely drive non-CDL equipment such as pickup trucks and water trucks as well as the ability to safely use hand tools.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, chemical labels, best management practices, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Required Education

Minimum/Preferred	Education Level
Minimum	Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or related field
Preferred	Master’s degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or related field is preferred

• At least three years progressive industry experience.
