Urban Forestry Assistant

Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position inspect trees and shrubs for hazards, disease and pest infestations; identify trees and shrubs for removal or maintenance and assist Urban Foresters with the tree planting program.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture or a directly related field. OR an Associate’s degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Arboriculture, or a directly related field; plus two years of urban forestry experience involving tree inspection and tree disease identification. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Certification: Must receive certification as an Arborist as recognized by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) by the completion of the working test period.
Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, experience and training as listed on the Employment Application. Applicants must provide explanation for all changes in employment and any gaps in their employment history on the application.
