Welcome Your New ISA Board Members

The ISA is pleased to announce the appointment of new board members with their term starting 1 September 2025. The ISA Board of Directors comprises 15 elected directors. The president and president-elect of the board are each elected by the current directors for their respective terms of office from among the members of the Board of Directors.
The following elected individuals will serve on the ISA Board of Directors for the 2025-2026 term:
Board President: Sharon Jean-Philippe, PhD
President-Elect: Samuel Ma
New Board Members:
Asia Dowtin, PhD
Dowtin is an assistant professor of Urban Forestry in the Michigan State University Department of Forestry. Her research explores the relationships between urban forest structure, spatial context, and water and nutrient cycling in metropolitan areas. She is a member of the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council and the TREE Fund Board of Trustees, and she has held various positions within ISA, including serving on the ISA Michigan Chapter Executive Board.
Boel Hammarstrand
Hammarstrand is an accomplished tree climber and international tree-climbing champion. She has more than 15 years of experience in arboriculture. She is a certified specialist trainer and assessor with extensive experience delivering hands-on instruction in climbing, chainsaw use, woodchipper operation, and pesticide application—always with a strong focus on safety, performance, and environmental awareness. Additionally, she served on national and international boards, led large-scale professional events, and contributed to educational and policy initiatives across Europe.
Kevin K. Eckert
Eckert is President, Managing Director, and Chief Consulting Arborist of Arbor Global USA and Arbor Global Hong Kong Ltd. With over 45 years of experience, Eckert is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and an active member of the profession. He is a past President of the Western Chapter ISA, and has also previously served on the Hong Kong Urban Forestry Advisory Panel, as Director of Trees for Honolulu's Future, and as President of Smart Trees Pacific, an NGO that supports urban and community forestry.
Randall H. Miller
Miller serves as Director of Research and Development at Eocene Environmental Group (formerly CNUC). An ISA member since 1986, he has served as an ISA Board member and has been a member of the ISA Certification Test Committee. He currently serves on the ISA Appeals Committee and is an incoming Member of the ISA Awards Committee. He has also served on the ISA Editorial Board.
