ANSI Z133-2017 Proposed Draft Revision: Second Public Review Now Open

Categories: February 2024
The second draft of the proposed revision of the ANSI Z133-2017 standard is now available and the second public review and comment period on the proposed draft is open until 18 March 2024. In this period, ISA is only accepting comments on the draft standard's content that has changed since the first public review that took place from 21 July 2023 to 4 September 2023. A draft manuscript showing the sections available for comment can be downloaded from the public review page. The public review page also includes instructions and a link to a web form for submitting comments.
The first public review and comment period yielded 333 comments from the public in 2023. Task groups of the Z133 Committee considered each comment, proposed a response to the commenter, and, in some cases, proposed revisions to the draft based on the comments. The task groups presented their proposals to the Z133 Committee, which reviewed each comment and made the final determination on any changes to the draft standard. ISA sent the Z133 Committee's responses to commenters before the opening of the second public review on 2 February 2024.
Comments submitted during the second public review and comment period will be brought to the consideration of the Z133 Committee in its April 2024 in-person meeting. Following that meeting, by end of June 2024, commenters will receive a formal response from the committee on its decisions regarding the comments.
The American National Standard for Arboricultural Operations—Safety Requirements (the Z133 standard) is a United States safety standard for use across the arboriculture industry. The current edition of the Z133 was published in 2017. Since that year, the Z133 Committee has drafted revisions to refine the standard, ensure better safety outcomes, and keep pace with developments in the industry.
To ensure that the revision process is open to all parties directly and materially interested in the standard, the Z133 Committee's proposed draft is submitted to a public review and comment period. This crucial step ensures that every perspective is considered, often resulting in substantive changes and improvements to the committee's draft. All such substantive changes are again made available for public review and comment, iteratively, until the Z133 Committee decides no further changes are needed.
