Crane Removal Climber

Location: Columbus, IN
Salary: $22.50-$30.00+ based on experience and certifications

Frank’s Tree Care is seeking a motivated and reliable climber to join our team. This position is primarily focused on crane-assisted tree removals, with occasional pruning work. Most climbing will be performed using a crane; however, candidates must also be capable of safely handling removals in areas where equipment cannot access.

This role is part of a dedicated crane removal crew. While climbing is a key component, many days will involve supporting the crew with ground operations, equipment handling, and job site efficiency.

Climbing responsibilities will primarily include rigging and slinging spars and large wood, particularly when stem sizes exceed the capacity of a Mecanil grapple saw.

We are looking for someone with relevant experience, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude who takes pride in performing safe, efficient, and professional tree work.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Perform tree removals using crane-assisted techniques

• Climb and remove trees safely in areas where equipment cannot access

• Operate and work from:

• Bucket trucks

• Tracked lifts

• Assist with pruning operations as needed

• Work as part of a crane removal crew

• Maintain safety standards and proper use of PPE

• Communicate effectively with crew members and crane operators

• Properly maintain,prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, aerial lifts and more

• Help in all groundwork operations when not climbing

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in tree climbing and removals (required)

• Experience working with cranes (preferred)

• Experience working with knuckleboom cranes and mecanil grapplesaws (preferred)

• Ability to operate or willingness to learn:

• Bucket truck

• Tracked lift

• Grapple truck debris loader

• CDL Preferred

• Strong understanding of tree rigging, cutting techniques, and safety practices

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

• Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset

• Valid Drivers License (Class B preferred)
