Title: The Bottom Line: Tree Selections For the Urban Understory

Summary: Tall trees with big canopies provide a high level of environmental services, but are not for every sight line or for sites under power lines. Fortunately, there is a diverse set of species and cultivars that fit the bill for this understory environment. This talk features a discussion of the right trees for these sites, focusing on growth rates, mature size, and key functional and aesthetic characteristics. Pest and plant health management issues for these selection options are also discussed, and issues of species diversity and invasive species perspectives are addressed.
