Sr Arborist, Ordinance Compliance

Location: Sarasota, FL
Salary: $31.0632 - $39.6056 Hourly

To represent the City in public hearings involving tree protection issues, including enforcing the provisions of the City of Sarasota tree protection ordinance and inspecting job sites in the City for compliance with the tree protection ordinance.

 

Essential Functions

• Supervises planning, monitoring, and implementation of canopy tree programs, giveaways, and special events.

• Supervises and coordinates the activities and training of Arborists assigned to ordinance compliance.

• Understands and enforces all aspects of the City of Sarasota tree protection ordinance and all other landscaping and buffer requirments.

• Prepares reports relating to tree protection issues that are of a quality that can be presented at quasi-judicial hearings.

• Reviews and processes tree removal permits and building permits filed with the Building Division.

• Monitors job sites to ensure tree protection barriers are erected and maintained.

• Works with Development Review Committee regarding site plan review for projects.

• Works with other departments and reviews proposed plans to ensure compliance with tree protection ordinance, landscaping, and buffers including CIP projects.

• Works with the Department to make updates to the Tree Protection Ordinance as needed.

• Represents the City with Tree Protection Ordinance and inquiries from the public and media.

• Meets with citizens, contractors, and developers onsite as needed.

• Monitors maintenance of trees and vegetation planted for mitigation buffers and zoning requirements.

• Monitors planting, transplanting, trimming, pruning and irrigation necessary for the healthy growth and propagation of trees planted by contractors in relation to the tree protection ordinance, buffer, and code requirements.

• Maintains appropriate system of records concerning the tree protection ordinance.

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's Degree from and accredited college or university in Horticulture, Landscaping, Parks Administration or related field,

• Four (4) years of relevant experience,

• Or the equivalent combination of education and experience which will provide the core knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position,

• Possession of a Certified Arborist Certification is required,

• Possession of Tree Risk Assessment Qualification within 12 months of employment,

• Fundamentals of Code Enforcement Level I preferred,

• Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Florida Driver's License is required.
