Public Works Forestry Intern - Summer

Location: Arlington Heights, IL
Salary: $18.00 per hour

The Village of Arlington Heights Public Works Department is seeking a Forestry Intern to join its hardworking team this summer season! The Forestry Intern will have a chance to grow and learn new skills from the Village’s supportive and knowledgeable staff while making a meaningful contribution to the local community. Under the direct supervision of experienced Village employees, the Forestry Intern will learn on the job and perform a variety of essential forestry tasks, such as tree inventory updates, tree watering, mulching, pruning and removal, examining trees for potential diseases, and making general ecological assessments to ensure compliance with municipal code.

This position requires a basic understanding of tree identification and tree physiology. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and ESRI software are a plus. If you like to stay busy and spend time outdoors, this may be the perfect opportunity for you!

The selected individual will be paid $18.00 per hour and work Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for approximately 12 weeks. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time college or university degree program in forestry, forestry management, horticulture, botany, ecology, or a related field. Qualified candidates will be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Illinois driver’s license, and have the ability to work outdoors, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and safely operate power tools.
