Urban Forestry Management Intern
Location: Sioux Falls, SD

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Students enrolled in a forestry, arboriculture, natural resources management, horticulture, landscape design or closely related curriculum as a full-time student at a college, university, or vocational technical school.
- Ability to identify various tree species.
- Ability to work as a team member and collaborate effectively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide assistance with various urban forest management activities, which may include, but not limited to: inventory updates, marking trees for removal, coordinating with homeowners and performing site inspections.
- Work closely with City of Sioux Falls contractors removing street trees to monitor progress and inspect work for quality assurance.
- Assist with the City of Sioux Falls planting permit program performing initial site inspections and re-inspecting planted sites.
- Contribute to the City of Sioux Falls forestry website providing review and feedback of page content and assisting with the development of updates to the website and various PDF publications.
- Assist with community events, public education and outreach pertaining to Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), tree planting and urban forest management.
- Assisting Parks and Recreation Division staff with day-to-day operations within the office and other duties as assigned.
- The internship project will include a community outreach workshop centered on a current forestry issue our community is facing to increase awareness while improving the Urban Forest.
