Job Title: Plant Health Care Technician 

Full Time/Part Time/Seasonal

Reports To: Crew Leader/Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Summary: Shadywood Tree Experts in Hopkins, MN is looking to hire a full-time, Tree Health Care Technician / Tree Care Apprentice. This position is a full time position, year-round position with duties split between the Plant Health Care Department (PHC) and the Tree Pruning Department. 

 

The ideal candidate will perform PHC duties during the growing season and will work on the tree crew as an apprentice learning all aspects of tree crew operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plant Health Care Technician Duties include:

Safely and accurately measure pesticides

Safely apply pesticides and fertilizers

Perform health care inspections

Interact with customers

Perform basic maintenance on the PCH truck(s) and equipment

 

Tree Crew Apprentice duties include:

Safely assist with tree care ground operations including hauling brush, raking, cleanup, and other assigned tasks

Learn Tree Crew procedures and skills

 

The ideal candidate will be able to advance through Shadywood as new skills and certifications are earned. We provide complete training for all positions.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid drivers license

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain commercial pesticide applicator license within 4 weeks of being hired

  • Must have basic tree identification skills

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions

  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs

  • Must be able to work independently, manage time and be an efficient production employee

  • Background in caring for residential and commercial properties is a plus

  • Diagnosing basic plant health issues is a plus. 

  • Basic equipment maintenance is a plus 

 

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability to be a team player

  • Professionalism
