Associate Consulting Arborist Intern

Associate Consulting Arborist Intern

What You Will Do:

• Conduct GIS tree inventories for residential, municipal, and commercial clients
• Staff Emerald Ash Borer “Hotline” to respond to client requests for proposals
• Provide evaluations of ash tree conditions
• Timely preparation and presentation of proposals to homeowners
• Follow up calls on existing recommendations to clients
• Attend weekly sales & science meetings
• Occasional public speaking on the Rainbow Treecare brand and our services
• Provide consultations to clients that include annual management plan recommendations with an emphasis on Plant Health Care

As an Associate Consulting Arborist for Rainbow Treecare (a division of Rainbow Tree Company), your primary responsibility is to provide entry-level sales support to our Consulting Arborist team throughout the Twin Cities. This position is an integral part of our industry leading consulting team and is intended to allow for the development of skills necessary to advance to the position of Consulting Arborist.

You have an interest in helping to manage an urban ecosystem through your efforts. You are able to learn the basics of tree and shrub care, including proper diagnosis, treatment protocols, hazard tree evaluation, integrated pest management, and industry-approved tree care practices. You will be responsible for evaluating the current condition of ash trees and their suitability for protection against  Emerald Ash Borer. Plant Identification is also an important job function. You will be responsible for conducting tree inventories and collecting various data for each plant into our one of several databases. Lastly, strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of organization is necessary to communicate, often to a group, proposals, our brand, and benefits to long-term tree management in a high-quality manner.

Qualifications:

• Two-year degree in Urban Forestry, related field or practical experience
• A basic foundation in local tree identification
• Valid driver’s license and a commitment to safe driving
• Certified Tree Inspector or ability to pass exam within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• Four-year degree in Urban Forestry or related field
• Past sales or customer service experience
• Strong MS Office Skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
• Use of GIS or similar software for creating and managing plant inventories
• Current ISA Certification or ability to obtain one within one year (we pay for test)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is performed outdoors in any weather element throughout urban and rural areas. May be required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects; may be exposed to safety hazards and hazardous tools and equipment; during which safety precautions must be followed, including use of safety equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds at any given time.
