Job Summary

The Assistant Regional Forester is responsible for evaluating and improving the planning and trimming quality of the DTE Energy Tree Trimming Program for assigned region(s). This position will ensure that tree trimming work plans comply with industry standards, the Company's tree trimming specifications, and that all trimming work is executed according to these plans and standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs site visits to evaluate the quality of tree trimming work plans (prior to execution) and completed tree trimming work
  • Uses the Company's electronic work management system (Clearion) to identify specific defects in work plans or completed trimming work for remediation
  • Assists in the compilation of metrics that illustrate key trends and overall performance of the Company's tree trimming program with respect to quality
  • Assists in problem solving efforts to identify and correct the root cause of planning or trimming defects
  • Provides support to Regional Forester in resolving disputes between the Company and its contractors regarding planning or trimming defects
  • Performs follow-up site visits to verify that defects have been fixed

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry or closely related field
  • OR Associates degree in Forestry or closely related field with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in Line Clearance / Tree Trimming or related field
  • OR High School diploma with a minimum of four (4) years' experience in Line Clearance / Tree Trimming or related field

Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • One year of experience working within electrical distribution line clearance operations
  • ISA Arborist Certification
  • ISA Utility Specialist Certification

 

Other Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of Line Clearance Arboriculture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to work and navigate independently
  • Ability to work and communicate with others
  • Must obtain ISA Arborist Certification within one year
  • Basic knowledge of overhead distribution equipment
  • Must meet company driving standards
  • Working conditions include but are not limited to working outdoors, near DTE electrical equipment, customers, in rural and urban areas, working overtime as required, perform storm assignments/duties.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions, walk for extended periods of time, and traverse over uneven terrain.
