District Manager

Location: Puget Sound, WA
Salary:

American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) seeks an experienced Manager to lead our forestry team in the Puget Sound Area. This position reports to the PNW Region Manager and will be responsible for managing and growing a diverse forestry consulting business which currently includes 30,000 acres under long term management contracts, multiple small landowner and urban forestry projects, and local government consulting contracts. The successful candidate will work closely with other District and Area Managers in Washington and Oregon to ensure client continuity and objectives are achieved. As the Puget Sound District Manager; this position will be responsible for developing and generating new forestry consulting, forest management and real estate business.


Job Functions and Responsibilities:
• Manage a 6 person team for compliance with Company mission, vision, core values and policies
• Prepares annual budgets and operating plans, forecasts, and reports for clients
• Facilitate client communications, reports, and client tours
• Oversees the management and implementation of forest operations
• Oversees the delivered log and stumpage program
• Road construction and maintenance program management
• Responsible for reforestation, spray programs, and other silvicultural activities
• Participation in industry meetings and co-ops
• Work within the objectives of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative
• Manage leases, road easements, permits, and access records
• Manages team performance and safety program
• Develop and grow new business in the Puget Sound area
• Prepares District budget, monthly reports, and projections
• Other tasks as assigned by the Region Manager


Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or equivalent
• 10+ years forestry experience in the western United States
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong listening capabilities with the ability to translate communications into appropriate action
• Ability to manage multiple projects under strict time constraints
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment
• Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Arc GIS
• Ability to manage and work within a team environment
• Ability to work in difficult field conditions, such as walking in steep terrain, over vegetation, and on rocks, during inclement weather (snow, rain, heat)
• Ability to safely operate vehicles on steep and narrow mountain roads


Work Environment:
Office or remote field environment. Subject to various means of transportation including off-road vehicles. Required to drive or ride through rough terrain and weather conditions. Involves working long periods of time outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Exposure to loud noise, extreme temperatures, fumes or air-borne particles, outdoor weather conditions, and inclement weather. Exposure to heavy equipment operations.


Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive, walk, wade, stand, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, reach with hands and arms, life and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
