Fleet Manager

We are a very well-established, long-standing tree and lawn care operation, seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to join our team in Westchester County, NY. The Fleet Manager will be a hands-on manager who is responsible for overseeing the repairs & maintenance of all company vehicles and equipment. This position facilitates all garage-related activities including assessment, diagnosis, and repairs of equipment problems, as well as determining when jobs need to be outsourced. The Fleet Manager will supervise and direct several Mechanics and an Administrative Assistant who is responsible for tracking, updating and maintaining all licenses, registrations, insurances and legalities related to vehicles and equipment. With administrative support, the Manager is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions

Responsibilities

· Oversee all garage and service maintenance operations. Train, supervise and direct several mechanics in all aspects of fleet maintenance and repairs.

· Coordinate maintenance and repairs for all company vehicles & equipment; determine in-house or outsourcing repairs based upon cost-effectiveness (i.e. roll-off trucks, tractor-trailer rigs, industry specific large and small machinery, gasoline & diesel engines-internal and diagnostics).

· Enforce company safety standards and policies at all times to ensure a safe and controlled workplace.

· Coordinate all logistics of equipment repairs and exchange equipment for all satellite locations.

· Ensure fleet related records are up to date and compliant covering regulations of the 3 states where work is performed: NY, NJ, CT

· Direct yard activities as they pertain to efficient use and storage of trucks and equipment.

· Maintain and enforce a clean and organized work area, securing all equipment and supplies.

· Assist with purchase and allocation of tools and equipment for all satellite locations.

· Assess operational expenses and make recommendations for optimal efficiency.

· Maintain tracking and allocation systems together with administrative assistant.

· Perform internet research on vendors and pricing to minimize costs and maximize efficiency and profits. Cultivate long-term relationships with vendors.

· Maintain PM records and repairs through a cloud based computerized system.

· Ensure all DOT regulations are adhered to and enforced including driving tests, driver files, etc.

· Manage Assets number and allocations

· Report all fuel tax to ensure full compliance

· Perform oil sample tests and send labs for analysis

· Ensure all preventative maintenance is performed on schedule throughout the company.

 

Requirements

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

· 10+ years’ experience as a Mechanic; shop supervisory experience a must.

· Experience with large construction equipment and hydraulics a major plus.

· Computer proficiency required and Spanish speaking a major plus.

· Excellent organizational skills, great attention to detail, and good communication skills.

· Good at prioritizing, multi-tasking, time management, and working with minimal supervision.

· Must be a hands-on manager; must be able to “lead a team while being part of the team.”

· Tremendous willingness to learn.
