ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Conducts field inspections year round
Plans, designs and monitors street tree and urban forestry projects and programs to insure the preservation, conservation, restoration and enhancement of the physical environment

Examples of Duties

UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION
Reviews policies and procedures and recommends modifications
Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures
Prepares reports, correspondence and documents, and completes special projects
Plans and prepares contract specifications for planting, removal and maintenance of trees, shrubs and plants
Evaluates the condition and placement of trees
Orders replacement of dead or unhealthy plants and trees, or the repair or pruning of plants and trees
Consults with engineers and utility companies before permitting trees to be located in the public right-of-way and to prevent a driving hazard to the public
Monitors landscaping and forestry work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications
Conducts research to determine methods for planting, cultivating and spraying of trees, shrubs and plants
Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs
Conducts on-site inspections to investigate the cause of complaints, to monitor and observe the progress of and timely completion of projects, and to assure all aspects of complaints have been addressed and resolved satisfactorily
Performs related work

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree
Botany
Forestry
Horticulture
Landscape Architecture
Plant Ecology
Related field

WORK EXPERIENCE
Three years of arborist, forestry or landscaping experience

EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must be on 24 hour call
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
