Plant Health Care Manager Job Description 

 

Objective:  

 

Plan, schedule, direct, co-ordinate the operations of business in the plant health care department. Plan and maintain systems and procedures for operating efficiency. Manage staff for optimum performance. Being in the field for daily production of plant health care services.  

 

Responsibilities   

 

  • Determine staffing requirements for daily jobs 

  • Train new staff 

  • Administration roles but not limited to scheduling, inspections, sampling, treatments, inventories, record keeping, and report writing 

  • Supervise direct reporting staff according to overall company policy 

  • Apply strategic planning to determine department objectives 

  • Set department employee goals and objectives 

  • Develop staff to maximize potential 

  • Delegate work duties to staff to attain objectives 

  • Allocate use of available resources 

  • Monitor and assist staff with work progress 

  • Plan and implement procedures and systems to maximize operating efficiency 

  • Establish and maintain safety procedures and policies  

  • Review performance data (financial, sales and activity reports) to monitor and measure productivity, goal progress and activity levels 

  • Responsible for the achievement of department productivity and quality goals 

  • Commercial sales: Acquire new clientele and meet needs of existing customers 

  • Meet with clients/prospects to evaluate, monitor and diagnose Tree/landscape conditions 

  • Design treatment and maintenance plans for plant health care 

  • Monitor, diagnose and treat insect, disease, physiological, and cultural conditions 

  • Complete diagnostic reports and provide comprehensive information for creating an ideal environment for optimum health of landscapes including monitoring, diagnosing and treating insect, disease, weed, and other conditions for client trees and shrubs 

  • Provide estimates and bids and negotiate contracts 

  • Maintain excellent customer relations and service existing client base while developing territory by identifying and acquiring new clients 

 

 

 

Required Skills: 

 

  • Great Tree, Weed/Turf grass and shrub identification, personal skills, and communication skills. Experience with arboriculture, entomology, retail or wholesale nursery, landscape design, and forestry. 

  • Provide integrated pest management (IPM) on client properties using tankers, spray pumps and spreaders.  

  • Chemical mixing procedures and application methods 

  • Perform fertilization and IPM application on trees and shrubs using spray and injection tools.  

 

Qualifications:  

  • Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, or a related field OR prior experience working in the tree care industry 

  • Understanding of species-specific insect, disease, and cultural tending practices 

  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor and work in all weather conditions and seasons 

  • Has/ability to obtain ISA Certified Arborist License with in first year of employment  

  • Commercial Pesticide Applicator License 

  • Valid driver’s license and clean Motor Vehicle Record
