VDOT Roadside Coordinator- Culpeper District
Location: Culpeper, Va
Salary: $43,135 to $83,649
Contract Monitor/Administrator
We are seeking a Roadside Coordinator to provide contractual oversight
and technical expertise in the support and execution of our Roadside
Management Program spanning Culpeper District’s geographical area
encompassing Culpeper, Orange, Madison, Greene, Albemarle, Louisa,
Fluvanna, Rappahannock and Fauquier counties. Incumbent will administer
and monitor contracts pertaining to tree trimming, tree removal, pesticide
application, hydro seeding, turf seeding, turf management, landscape
installation/maintenance and wild flower planting. Ensures all work is
performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency
guidelines and policies governing roadside management. Upon request,
provides expert advice and direction for state forces engaged in these same
functions. Assists with the planning, development and organization of
contracts that meet roadside management needs and use budget effectively.
Documents and tracks expenditures related to the Roadside budget.
Develops and implements filing and data management systems for the
documentation of Roadside activities. Presents positive, cooperative, and
professional attitude, image, and actions to all internal and external
customers.
You are minimally qualified if you have:
• Selected candidate must hold either a current certification as a
Commercial Pesticide Applicator from the Virginia Department of
Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) OR a current certification
as an Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) at
time of hire. Whichever of these two certifications is not held at time of
hire, selected candidate must acquire within 18 months of employment.
• Knowledge of policies, principles and practices related to environmentally
sound management of roadside vegetation.
• Experience applying environmental principles and practices related to the
construction and maintenance of roadways.
• Experience applying contract development and administration policies and
procedures
• Knowledge and experience in providing proper lane closures as outlined in
the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual and utilizing all traffic Control
devices.
• Ability to evaluate contract personnel, coordinate various operations,
monitor contracts, provide guidance to contractors and feedback to VDOT
personnel, communicate effectively, and promote teamwork and
cooperation.
• Ability to keep accurate records and documentation to include
demonstrated knowledge or working within budget and developing cost
estimates.
• Ability to schedule work, participate effectively in strategic planning
meetings and to establish obtainable priorities.
• Skill in decision making and the ability to make sound, independent
judgments based on VDOT policies and procedures.
• Ability to create correspondence and reports using computer skills.
• Ability to establish and develop positive working relationships with the
contractor, internal staff, local government and law/response officials, and
the general public to ensure an efficient process to deliver the outcomes of
the contract.
• Ability to resolve issues and mitigate successful resolutions.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments and meet established deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include:
• Experience analyzing, interpreting, and applying the terms of contracts.
• Current certification as a Commercial Pesticide Applicator by VDACS and
Arborist by ISA is desirable.
• Experience in the application of environmental requirements to
transportation or similar operations
• DEQ Responsible Land Disturber or higher certification.
• Undergraduate degree in one of the life sciences related to the
environment, such as horticulture, forestry, biology, or soil science.
