Arbor Operations Manager
Location: Kent, WA
Salary:
Summary: Responsible for ensuring execution of efficient crew production, job quality, execution of Monarch’s internal safety and certification programs, job estimating, exceptional customer service, and employee mentorship; perform related work as required.
Primary Duties:
- Keeps Branch Manager informed about customer and operational issues
- Identifies potential Arbor work for bid opportunities and assist in job estimation and bid creation
- Solves customer problems quickly and effectively, with adequate follow-up
- Oversees the scheduling of daily work, assignment of daily tasks to Arbor production staff and ensure timely completion according to contract, quality standards, and budget terms.
- Facilitates training programs to employees and helps encourage employees to obtain certifications by fostering a positive coaching environment
- Ensures that Arbor Foremen are demonstrating optimal yard departures of their crews including morning stretch and flex and gate check activities
- In collaboration with the Branch Manager, develop, implement, and foster an internal Arbor employee certification program
- At times, may come within contact of chemicals being used for Plant Health Care Services. Must understand basic chemical usage and ensure that SDS sheets for all chemicals being used are in compliance
- Ensures that Arbor Foremen understand and execute proper maintenance of all Arbor equipment (e.g. chippers, bucket trucks, stump grinders, chain saws, etc)
- Analyzes on-the-job performance and looks at ways on how to increase efficiency of crews
- Ensures compliance with all aspects of the company’s safety program and understands the contribution safety makes to employee well-being, team efficiency, and gross profit
- Shows up to work each day on time; completes all tasks within time expectations; adheres to company dress code policy; wears clean clothes to work each day; follows inclement weather policy and sick leave reporting procedures
Supervisory Duties:
- Direct supervision of two or more Field Foremen
- Training, planning, assigning, and directing work
- Conflict resolution
Qualifications:
Education
- At least 8-10 years of professional tree work experience
- At least 5-7 years project management experience
Language Skills
- Ability to speak effectively before employees and customers
- Ability to verbally understand and communicate in English
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred
Mathematical Skills
- Understands how to calculate load ratings for tree removal rigging
- Can formulate and calculate unit costing for bidding
- Understands gross margin and what effects it
Reasoning Ability
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out tasks
- Deal with standardized situations and/or hectic situations with calm reasoning skills
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
- Valid driver’s license issued by the state where employed
- Valid CDL Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes Endorsement is strongly preferred
- Valid ISA Certified Arborist certification is required
- Valid ISA Certified Tree Worker Specialist certification is required
- Valid CPR certification is required
- Valid Flagger and Traffic Control Technician license is strongly preferred
- Valid OSHA 30-hour certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
- Valid ISA TRAQ certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
- Valid TCIA Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced tree care principles, pruning techniques, tree ID, and disease ID
- Advanced understanding and execution of Tree Climbing (above 15’ft), Rigging, Single Rope Techniques (SRT), knots and rope operation, traversing, aerial lift operation, and emergency tree rescue procedures
- Aerial Rescue trained; safe work practices; proper PPE; hazard recognition; underground locate procedures; and tree removal techniques
- Demonstrated knowledge and safe use of all Aerial Lifts and Bucket Trucks
- Excellent internal and external customer service skills, ensuring client needs are met in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion by demonstrating courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism
- Administrative procedures (e.g. safety forms, purchase orders, equipment inventory, bidding template, bid creation, etc.)
- Leadership, coaching, and employee development
