The Company: Washington Forestry Consultants, Inc. (WFCI) is a consulting firm based out of Olympia, WA. With 8 professional employees in 5 northwestern states, we help our clients manage trees and vegetation in the utility, urban, and traditional forestry environments. WFCI has been in business since 1991 and has a long list of outstanding clients.
Description of Duties:
- This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional with a degree in forestry and/or natural resources. An individual with significant utility experience and experience in the northwestern United States is desired.
- Duties will vary due to the broad scope of our client base, and based on the skill and experience level of the successful candidate. The main workload in the position is tree and vegetation management consulting with our diverse client base, but will include assisting in management of WFCI employees in the field. We consult primarily in Oregon and Washington, but do go into other states.
- In the utility environment: Duties will include workload inventories on utility transmission and distribution systems, hazard tree evaluations on critical lines, supervision of work, preparation of system management plans, management of contract employees, and other utility activities. Our workload is very heavy in the utility industry, so an experienced utility professional is a plus.
- In the urban environment: Duties will include hazard tree assessment in parks, greenbelts, tree protection planning, street tree inventory, and other urban forestry activities.
- In the traditional forestry environment: Duties may include timber inventory, stand assessment, timber sale administration, forest management plan preparation, supervision of reforestation, and other forestry activities.
- Must have excellent communications skills to deal with the public and our clients.
- Must have excellent tree identification skills, an in-depth knowledge of tree physiology, insects, and diseases.
- Must be articulate have excellent report writing skills to prepare professional reports.
- Must have knowledge of computers: Word and Excel in particular, Access a benefit and experienced with handheld computers for data collection and GPS.
- Must be ambitious and able to work independently, and walk in difficult terrain.
- A good driving record is essential and must be able to pass a drug test.
- Must have or attain ISA Certified Arborist certification as soon as possible and WFCI will support achievement of other certifications as qualified, e.g. Utility Specialist, Pesticide Consultants License, Board Certified Master Arborist, TRAQ, and other ISA qualifications as useful.
- Job will require some travel in the northwest, but not continuous.

Assignment Duration: Full-Time Position
Education/Work Experience: BS in Forestry. Advanced degree a plus. Minimum 5 years of experience in managing trees and vegetation. The successful candidate will work in a challenging environment with a company that specializes in managing trees and vegetation in the utility forestry, urban forestry, and traditional forestry environment.
Compensation: Depends on Qualifications, Education & Experience. Expected range of pay will be $58,000 to $66,000/year DOE. Compensation and duties will be adapted to the knowledge and skill level of the employee.

Vehicle: WFCI will provide an F-150 4x4 Extended Cab (or similar) vehicle for use on the job. Vehicle is for work use only.
