Bridging Arboriculture and Medical Professionals-Treehab: The Healing Power of Scientifically Designed Rehabilitative Tree Climbing Programs
Dr. John Gathright has discovered the amazing rehabilitative power of purpose specific tree climbing for people with disabilities. Gathright focuses on physiological, psychological and societal benefits of purpose-specific tree climbing programs in urban forests and green spaces-TreeHab. Through the organization Tree Climbing Japan, he has changed the lives of thousands of people in Japan by providing rehabilitative and therapy designed tree climbing programs that help lower pain sensitivity, stress, and anger while increasing vitality, self-worth and physical strength.
Monday Opening General Session Keynote
Mark Buscaino, Executive Director, Casey Trees
After decades of disinvestment, government refunding of Washington DC’s trees management organization, along with a new tree protection and replacement law, helped advance the efforts of non-profit Casey Trees has they worked to restore, enhance, and protect the tree canopy in the U.S. capital. Mark Buscaino will talk about the 15-year progress Casey Trees has gained by working with concerned residents, D.C. government, and other non-profits to restore the city’s street trees.
Tuesday Closing Session Keynote
Ari Novy, Executive Director, U.S. Botanic Gardens
Ari Novy will discuss the importance of arboriculture within an urban horticulture framework. Specifically about how well executed arboriculture practices are often multi-jurisdictional and are a primary determinant of connection to historical landscapes. Novy will also talk about the importance of designing horticultural spaces that serve as education nodes for arboriculture.

Individuals who attend the maximum number of sessions each day and purchase tickets to participate in Pre-Conference Workshops could earn 30 or more CEUs. The number of CEUs offered are based on the length of the workshop/session.
