Executive Director

SUMMARY

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of UAA as directed by the Board of Directors and serves as the administrator for all UAA activities. The Executive Director helps the Board fulfill its governance function and provides staff with direction and leadership toward achieving the organization's philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Board Administration & Leadership – Leads operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, and interfacing between Board and staff.
    1. Perform all duties incident to the Executive Director's office and all the duties as may from time to time be assigned by the President or the Board of Directors.
    2. Attend Executive Committee meetings and Board Meetings as required to discharge duties and responsibilities of that office but may not vote on Board action items.
    3. Act on and communicate Board decisions to staff, committees, members, and partnering organizations.
    4. Implement proper policy and procedures as directed by the Board or by regulations.
  2. Program, Product, & Service Delivery – Oversees the design, marketing, promotion, delivery, and quality of programs, products, and services. Responsible for ensuring alignment between stated objectives and execution across the organization and initiatives.
    1. Allocate appropriate resources towards priorities identified and agreed to by the Board, based on its strategic plan.
    2. Identify and prioritize new opportunities for programs, products, or services in conjunction with the Board's input.
  3. Financial, Tax, & Legal Risk Management – Recommends annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages organizational resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.
    1. Review and approve invoices and staff expense reports for payment.
    2. Review and approve monthly bank reconciliation reporting package.
    3. Review monthly financial reporting package and prepare a board report for the Finance Committee.
    4. Manage tax reporting, policy and procedure, and financial audits as required for 501c3 organizations.
  4. Community & Public Relations – Assures the organization and its mission, programs, products, and services are reflected in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.
    1. Serves as UAA's representative and spokesperson as directed by the Board.
    2. Act as a regulatory spokesperson as directed by Board.
    3. Develops and directs press release program as directed by Board.
    4. Provide feedback to the Board when appropriate.
  5. Fundraising – Oversees fundraising planning and implementation.
    1. Identify resource requirements.
    2. Research potential funding sources.
    3. Establish strategies to approach funders.
    4. Submits proposals.
  6. Management & Supervision – Responsible for managing UAA staff, providing work direction and supervision, providing regular feedback and performance management, and formal annual performance evaluations.
  7. Contracts with professional organizations to carry out projects within their area of expertise
    1. Develops and manages contracts for strategic planning facilitator, legal, financial, and other professional contracts.
    2. Responsible for oversight of Request for Proposal development, dissemination, and review, Memorandum of Understanding development and negotiations, partnership agreements, contracted services agreements, and sponsorship agreements.
  8. Other duties as assigned by the Board

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year College or University, and at least 9+ years management experience
  • Experience in utility arboriculture, integrated vegetation management, or utility operations is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental sustainability
  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective presentation skills in large group settings
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement successful strategic plans
  • Understanding of financial strategies and finance-related performance metrics, ability to calculate and draw conclusions from various data sets
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365; including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
