Starting pay rate - $21.20

$500 sign on bonus after working 90 days

Day-to-Day Work We Do In This Role That Helps Keep Electricity Flowing! (Primary Responsibilities):

Daily Direction of the Crew

  • The key work for this person will be around receiving and interpreting tree trimming and spraying orders from a General Foreperson or Line Clearance Supervisor of the utility, which requires the understanding of drawings and symbols representing lines, voltages, line equipment, etc.
  • Planning and laying out daily work for crew by assigning work for individual crew members and directing the crew in performing work according to accepted line clearance practices while controlling crew costs, including effective use of Peoplepower, work methods, operation of equipment, etc.
  • We will also need you to field requirements and taking independent action without close supervision while promoting and maintaining good customer and public relations through effective completion of assigned work and the appropriate behavior of employees on the crew.
  • Maintaining accurate records, timesheets and reports related to the performance of the crew operation.
  • Furnishes General Foreperson and utility representative with reports of orders completed, units of work completed, crew time, and distribution, etc.
  • Periodically furnishes reports on incidents, truck breakdowns, private property damage, new employee follow –up, etc.
  • May be delegated the authority to investigate incident reports, damage claims, etc., and to settle minor damage claims.

Keeping Yourself, your Crew and the Public Safe:

  • Making sure safe work practices are implemented using experience, discernment, company policy, and OSHA specifies to craft safe outcomes and conducts safety training in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Safeguarding the public from hazards in and around work area. Cooperating with customers, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways.
  • Setting up barriers, warning signs, flags, markers, etc., to protect employees and public.
  • Inspecting and makes or provides for necessary repairs to tools, truck, and other equipment.
  • Responsible for DOT maintenance and inspection requirements on all required vehicles.
  • Keeping informed regarding new equipment, specifications, standard practices, operating procedures, and customer and company employee relations policies and practices, including EEO and AA policies.
  • Conducting field training/retraining and instructs crew on new or revised job units.
  • In emergency situations, determines action to be taken to eliminate hazards to life and property.

Doing Hands on Work with your Crew

  • Trimming and/or removing trees by climbing with the aid of a ladder, safety belt, climbing line, powered trimmer lift truck, or working from the ground using gasoline, air, and hand-powered saws, pruner, etc.
  • Cutting branches or trunk sections and drops or lowers them to the ground with lines.
  • Using wedges, sledges, and a one or two-man crosscut or chainsaw when falling trees or trimmed trunks and in cutting and splitting logs into manageable pieces.
  • Spraying stumps and brush with hand-spraying equipment to prevent further growth.
  • Loading and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris and/or feeds brush into a powered chipper.
  • Repairing slight damage to lawns, fences, and walks caused by tree trimming.
  • Relaying hand-signals, directs traffic, drives, and operates trucks and equipment, as assigned and keeps trucks and work area clear and orderly, as well as helps train new employees.
  • Assuming responsibility for the inspection and proper working conditions of tools, truck, and other work equipment.
  • Requests repair or replacement, when necessary. Maintains good housekeeping on truck and at work locations.
  • Working in all temperatures and weather while being exposed to nature, i.e., irritating plants and biting or stinging insects, dust, etc.
  • You will also be working safely around hazardous equipment, in proximity to energized power lines as well as around excessive noise from machines, chain saw, wood chipper and other equipment with hearing protection.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping on truck and at work location.
  • Working safely at varying heights above ground and on unlevel terrain.

Working with the Public

  • Obtaining oral or written permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and apply herbicides.
  • Discussing issues such as obtaining access, power interruption, work to be done, etc., with customer or property owner.
  • Discussing responsibility for apparent damage to property, repairing minor damage, and referring controversial cases to the General Foreperson.

You Will Need To Have The Ability To (Minimum Requirements):

  • Demonstrate the required minimum of 2+ years of recent line clearance experience, previous foreperson experience highly desired
  • Minimum of Class B CDL
  • Safely drive an approved company vehicle and enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
  • Withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, i.e., rain, heat, sun, cold while having no fear of heights.
  • Use your excellent communication and leadership skills, including writing reading and comprehending written and verbal job instructions and information.
  • Work with hands above head for extended periods of time and be able to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
  • Due to the capacity of existing equipment, the weight of the employee should not exceed approximately 300 pounds.
  • Have the endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight- or ten-hour day. This will be especially key during emergencies when you will often work long hours and overtime (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call out work).
  • Demonstrate and use excellent organization skills and be able to multi-task while in confrontational and stressful situations.
  • Be able to have own transportation to and from the show up location.

We want to stress that because of our safety focus, and due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, you will need to be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time. These are highly physical jobs, for which we want to be clear with you about the physical requirements.

As a result, you will need to be able to:

  • Safely walk, climb, and work from ladders, or at various heights, on uneven and slippery surfaces and terrains, performing mentally/physically demanding work under unfavorable weather conditions while handling equipment or material.
  • Wear necessary PPE as necessary.
  • Have sufficient eyesight to judge distances and coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools.
  • Lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis, and up to 10 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test.

You Will Need To (Physical Requirements):

Rarely (less than 10%): Includes kneeling, crawling, sitting, climbing stairs, and the use of color vision.

Occasionally (up to 33% of the time): Includes body movements like stooping, squatting, pushing, climbing ladders, climbing on and off trucks and reading and lifting up to 50lbs.

Frequently (up to 66% of the time): Walking, hearing, speaking clearly over a wide // of distances, manual dexterity, twisting, carrying, pulling, balancing, and lifting up to 10lbs.

Continuously (67%-100% of the time): Standing, having a Range of Motion, using your vision (seeing), depth perception, seeing far away (distant) objects, reaching, climbing, gripping, sense of touch, and lifting 10-50lbs.
