Parks Supervisor

Location: South Pasadena, CA
Salary: $5,043.00 - $6,130.00 Monthly

The City of South Pasadena is recruiting to fill a full-time Parks Supervisor position.  Under direction of the Public Works Operations Manager, leads and assists in tree maintenance work, including trimming, chipping, trouble shooting diseases, planting, watering, spraying, removing, and diagnosing health conditions on trees and plantings in the parks, parkways, and public grounds; and all related work in the parks and medians throughout the city. Includes the upkeep and maintenance of the irrigation systems, pest control, and remedial installation on public grounds. 

Examples of Duties
Leads and assists in the planting and removal of parkway and park trees; supervises the tree contractor when conducting work in the city. Responds to complaints and inquiries from the general public. Inspects trees throughout the city and plans accordingly in response to the work orders generated. Leads and assists in the trimming of shrubs and softscape material in the parks. All landscaping is maintained clean and safe for the public's use. Leads and assists in the daily maintenance and upkeep of all vehicles and equipment in proper working order. Safety practices adopted by the city and spelled out in ANSI literature are all applicable to the position. Supervises the work of the maintenance contractors and the tree contractors engaged by the City. Carries out work directed by the Public Works Operations Manager. Prepares reports for several commissions and other departments.

Education/Training
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years experience in general tree maintenance work, including trimming, diagnosing report writing at levels equivalent to the Parks Supervisor of the city. Pest applicators certificate and on going tree and sprinkler training are desired. Management knowledge of a centralized irrigation system (Rain Master) is required. Knowledge is required of the proper upkeep and safety practices of all the equipment used. Knowledge of all shrubs and perennials for the purpose of landscaping and remedial work.

Three years of parks maintenance experience including maintenance of irrigation systems and one year of lead experience or any combination of training and/or experience that would provide the desired knowledge and abilities.

Knowlege Of
Gardening and grounds keeping methods and practices. Characteristics of common shade and ornamental trees and the methods and equipment used in planting, pruning, trimming, spraying, and removing trees and shrubs. A pest applicator license is desirable for this position.
