Plant Health Arbor Division Manager

Salary:

Position:  Plant Health Care Division Manager  

Classification:  Exempt   

Purpose: Position is responsible for supervising and managing all operations related to the residential and commercial pest/weed management, chemical applications and arbor care while bringing in a consistent flow of new business to the division in accordance with the sales and marketing plan. Coordinates the procurement and scheduled use of resources, including labor, equipment and materials to ensure maximum use and completion of work within budget, safety guidelines and quality standards.  Promotes the growth and development of field staff and assists them in carrying out their responsibilities as needed. Offers support and services to other divisions in company as needed.  Responsible for compliance with the Colorado Department of Agriculture laws and regulations.  

Essential Duties:  

- Procurement of proposal opportunities in Arbor (structural and safety tree pruning, dead tree removal, et.) and PHC (disease and insect treatments & prevention strategies, winter watering, etc.) both in the Commercial and Residential spheres.

- Respond to all inquiries and requests for bid in a timely manner.

- Responsible for the Profit and Loss statement for division.

- Work with ownership to establish yearly budgets. Monitor and report monthly on budgets and current statement.

- Analyze and assessment of the Daily Task History (DTH) for every PHC crew, ensuring that production goals are met on a daily basis. This role includes reviewing and assessing all daily DTH forms and reports.  Manages all budgeted PHC production hours in cooperation with the Assistant Manager. 

- Reviews Gross Margin Reports for the Division and works to maintain appropriate production levels while maintaining work quality.

-Manage and schedule labor, equipment and material to accomplish production schedules within established budgets. Maintains strict adherence to established schedules and budgets.  
 

- Ensure all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines.  Conducts weekly safety training and safety inspections on the job-sites.  

- Investigate any accident or safety violation, prepares appropriate reports, takes action steps to correct and prevent future occurrences.  -

 Maintain required government records, licenses etc. related to the application, use and storage of chemicals. Maintains list of individual licenses including Certified Pesticide Applicators and Registered Chemical Technicians and tracks expiration, renewal and ongoing education requirements.

- Ensure proper storage and handling of all chemicals within assigned area.

- Train employees in proper chemical application practices including mixing, transporting, SDS, safety, use of protective equipment and correct procedures and techniques.  

- Supervise employees, track attendance, enforce proper uniform and safety equipment use and approve time cards.

- Take lead in acquiring new talent for the division: headhunting and interviewing. Hiring will be done in concurrence with the COO and Principal Owner.

- Assist with terminations and disciplinary issues, training, coaching, mentoring and developing staff to reach potential and established goals for the individual and the department.  

- Identify and develop Crew Leaders.

- Conducts timely performance reviews of direct reports and take corrective actions when appropriate.

- Maintain sufficient staff to accomplish production schedules. Provide input in analyzing and forecasting future needs of staff and material needs to complete future jobs.  

- Responsible for the overall quality assurance/control of the chemical and arbor services, including turf health, pest management and aesthetics provided to all properties.

- Visit job sites on a regular basis, observing organization of work, identifying and resolving training issues, and taking necessary actions to correct problems, improve quality and ensure customer satisfaction.

- Order materials, equipment and supplies as needed within purchasing limits.  

- Oversee and assist with seasonally-focused operations that cross into Landscape Maintenance operations, such as Spring bed pre-emergent applications & spring turf pre-emergent applications, Summer broadleaf applications, and Seasonal Native mowing. Assist the Landscape Maintenance Division Manager & the account managers as necessary to maintain scheduling flow and quality control.

- Coordinate the use of labor, equipment, materials and other resources with other divisions as needed.

 - Provide technical information for customers, to support sales efforts with potential customer and personnel throughout the company. 
  
- Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop, and customer work sites.  

- Stay aware of Best Practices. Develop and recommend improved work methods and standards. Research new product lines related to pest management and arbor care.  

Other Duties:

- Snow duties as assigned. Position serves as materials procurement manager, maintaining stock and ordering of ice melt and slicer, and handling logistics as needed. This position also includes the function of Snow Captain, managing a snow route, during the winter months.

- Maintain organized and clean individual and shared work spaces.

- Provide value-engineering ideas to improve the Company’s competitive position.

- Seek ways to automate and streamline the estimating process.    

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree

- Current Colorado Commercial and Ornamental Pesticide Applicator license

- Minimum 5 years management and supervisory experience in related field

- Colorado Driver’s License that meets Company Motor Vehicle Eligibility policy

- Ability to work overtime, holidays, evenings or weekends as necessary

- Capable of working outdoors on job sites as needed

- Ability to lift and carry objects 40 to 88 pounds

 - Knowledge of computer applications

- Mechanical aptitude

Uniform:  Business casual attire is acceptable. Clothing that has the company logo is encouraged.  Jeans are acceptable with shirt that has company logo on it. If hat or sweatshirt is worn, it must have company logo on it
