Production Manager

Location: Chicago, IL
Salary: Based on Experience

The following is a list of specific duties, which are considered to be essential functions of the Production Operations Manager position. The list is not exhaustive as all positions at Kramer Tree Specialists, Inc. are dynamic. This is consistent with our need to be flexible and responsive to the needs of our customers. The employee who occupies this position is expected to assume any/all duties assigned by management irrespective of whether such duties are specifically included in this list. 

Position Summary 
The main objectives of the Production Manager position are to lead, coordinate, supervise and ensure safe, productive and high quality services offered though the Production Department staff, scheduling staff, arborist supply and evening fueling staff. Major objectives include working in conjunction with the Arborist Training/Performance Manager and the Safety & Quality Control Specialist to provide leadership, quality control, safety compliance, and support for executing all Production Department services offered. Assist in the recruiting and selection of qualified candidates for positions with the department. Provide effective leadership skills to enhance efficiencies, safety compliance, and inspire high quality services through effective and consistent communication with clients, crew leaders, and sales arborists. Job functions would also include working with the Production Department scheduling staff to effectively select and allocate the proper equipment and appropriate crews to ensure that productivity and profitability goals for the company are achieved. Ensure accuracy of all crew times once submitted for invoicing. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
• Oversee the completion of all services carried out by the Production Department, including collaborative efforts on snow operations as deemed necessary with designated staff leaders of the snow service accounts and needs.
• The ability to work long hours during periods of heavy work load and to be available for work on weekends as deemed necessary
• Supervise all Production Department scheduling staff to monitor, determine and approve crew hours and job detail costs on all jobs produced, making required operational adjustments as necessary in order to achieve continuous improvement of production efficiencies. 
• Plan and effectively prioritize weekly and daily activities of all field production staff in advance to ensure appropriate crew coverage under all weather conditions and develop contingency plans as necessary in order to make adjustments in a timely fashion.
• Work with the scheduling staff to develop a system to assure all work orders are scheduled appropriately and that the work is completed in accordance to the work order and client specifications.
• Collaborate effectively with other Department Managers to best utilize staff and resources 
• Attend and actively participate in all Management staff required duties and goals
• Conduct regularly scheduled production staff, safety, and production scheduling meetings, providing pertinent operation information. 
• Have clear understanding of and ability to enforce all Kramer Tree Specialists policies and procedures as described in the employee handbook
• Conduct annual performance reviews for all positions reporting directly to Production Manager, utilizing all appropriate management team members to provide the best assessment of each staff member's performance.
• Regularly conduct field staff evaluations/on-site inspections to ensure safe work practices, quality control of all services provided and efficient work practices of all staff and crews.
• Participate in the development of standard operation procedures for the Production Department 
• Handle customer requests promptly and professionally to ensure exceptional client service
• Assure that the appropriate paperwork is executed and submitted accurately and in a timely manner, including: timesheets, daily logs, DOT vehicle books, billing documentation, completed work orders, and other documents that are required.
• Work closely with the Shop Manager and shop staff to assure that the proper use of, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of all vehicles and equipment are accomplished.
• Maintain and be responsible for accurate parts, tools, and material inventories in the Arborist Supply room. 
• Participate in the development and continuous improvement of our company safety mission and actively lead and participate in monthly safety taskforce meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 
• The ability to effectively coordinate and prioritize numerous tasks, in order to complete each task safely, efficiently and effectively
• Ability to sit, stand or drive for periods of time dependent on daily duties.
• Ability to lift a minimum weight of 30 lbs
• Understanding and/or willingness to practice Interaction Management and superior leadership skills for the positive development of staff skill sets, trust and morale.
• The ability to use independent judgment to develop creative solutions to problems that arise.
• Excellent team work skills and the ability to address issues in a non-biased manner and identify practical solutions as problems arise.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and excellent inter-personal skills, in order to communicate with our clients and staff members effectively and promptly
• Arboriculture production and climbing field experience including the ability to operate or understand all equipment used by the production crews.
• Proven knowledge of snow removal operations and equipment.

Pre-Requisites 
• Management experience - with the proven ability to develop and work within a scheduled plan and the ability to analyze and interpret job cost reports.
• Valid and current Illinois Driver License (required)
• ISA Certified Arborist (preferred)
• TCIA CTSP (preferred)
• CDL Driver License Class A with (air brake) endorsement (preferred)
• OSHA 10 hour general industry and First Aid certified (preferred)
