Position Overview

This full-time position in Tree Care requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in arboriculture operations. A Tree Care Foreman is primarily responsible for leading a crew in the field performing tree and shrub pruning, removals, installing support systems and stump grinding.

 

Incumbents are expected to provide leadership, support and assistance to crew members in order to accomplish daily tasks as outlined by the Tree Department Production Manager. Individuals must demonstrate proficiency in a variety of arboricultural practices including proper pruning techniques, felling, rigging and inspections. Effective communication and accurate record keeping of crew member hours is a must!

 

All tree care foreman are encouraged to increase their knowledge and skills in order to acquire or maintain the ISA Certified Arborist® classification. Perficut offers Continuing Education training for employees already certified and can assist personnel in preparing for the Certified Arborist exam.

 

Day-to-Day Stuff

  • Perform work requested by the supervisor, in the timeframe requested, to the level of professionalism expected by members of Team Perficut.
  • Lead a 2-3 person crew in tree care operations.
  • Train Tree Groundsmen in tree pruning, removal, and basic knots.
  • Complete tasks in a safe, efficient and timely manner.
  • Report progress and obstacles to the Production Manager. Interact with clients to ensure proper delivery of expected service.
  • Perform all work consistently adhering to quality and safety standards.
  • Perform just-in-time, light maintenance on equipment, as needed, in the field.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and co-workers, maintaining a positive attitude. Demonstrate leadership within the company as well as within the tree department. Assist other departments as requested within the best of your abilities.

Characteristics Needed to Succeed

  • Must have a valid commercial driver’s license with a Class D2 minimum, Class A preferred and have the ability to be added onto the company’s insurance policy.
  • Full competency in the use of chainsaws, chippers, and pole saws.
  • Ability to operate a boom truck vehicle
  • Proficiency in tree rigging.
  • Ability to climb a tree without spikes using only a rope and saddle.
  • Ability to accurately identify common tree species in Iowa.
  • Demonstrated ability to process and follow instructions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Ability to learn how to use tools and equipment meeting operational safety standards.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal or written instructions.
  • Must be able to work in a safety aware environment.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions; exposure to physical elements including heat and cold. 
  • Regular and prompt attendance required; Ability to work outside regular business hours as needed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Crane removal experience preferred
  • This position requires availability for snow removal during the winter season.
  • Uniform deposit required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day with the ability to be mobile throughout required work areas. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 75 lbs. The employee will be required to generate up to 100 lbs of push/pull force when maneuvering various equipment/supplies. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

 

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be expected to work outside in all types of weather conditions; conditions include occasional extreme heat exposure due to natural climate. The noise level in each work environment will vary and could sporadically be loud.
