Arborist / Tree Climber

Location: Halifax, NS


Arborist Tree Climber $25/hour. Under direct supervision of Owners Wesley Jenkins, ISA-Certified Arborist and Julie Jenkins, Business Administrative Coordinator. Required to meet at the office in Oakfield or at the job site. Work takes place within HRM and sometimes the surrounding areas. Hours range from 9 to 27 per week and up to 40 hours per week, weather pending. To start as soon as possible. Successful candidate must fulfill all of the following requirements to perform skilled tasks, while maintaining GHTS safety and efficiency standards, in the care and maintenance of trees:

  • Valid ISA Certification or degree in Forestry, Arboriculture or a related field is mandatory
  • Five plus years of experience within the tree care industry
  • Maintains ISA Arborist industry standards and technical knowledge
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with clean record
  • Must have own up-to-date climbing equipment that meets industry safety standards
  • Steel toe safety boots are not provided, employee must have their own
  • Personal cell phone for communicating between jobsites is not provided, employee must have their own phone and cellular plan (most have unlimited texting)
  • Handling of lowering lines, ropes for hoisting, and securing of equipment on utility ropes
  • Removing, lifting and cutting up of tree limbs, brush, and trunks with a chainsaw and wood chipper while lifting over 50 lbs
  • Operating a mini skid steer with bucket, grapple, and industrial stump grinder attachments
  • Assisting with clearing property of debris when job complete with rakes and shovels
  • Performs all required ground and climbing duties in support of specific job assignments, as directed by Wesley Jenkins.
  • Ability to lead and supervise ground workers onsite when Wesley Jenkins is not onsite
  • Assisting with keeping the area safe to property owners, buildings, pedestrians, and vehicles
  • Adapts easily to changing priorities, dependable and flexible with scheduling
  • Maintains a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Polite and professional demeanor as a representative of GHTS
