Arborist I, Full Time

Job Summary
Summary: Prunes, trims, shapes, hedges and removes trees using power and hand tools; plants and maintains trees as directed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates power saws and spraying equipment.
- Climbs trees with special gear.
- Operates bucket trucks as needed.
- Conducts daily inspections of trees to ensure proper maintenance.
- Provides care to individual trees by removing excessive, obstructive, dead or dying branches.
- Utilizes special equipment to remove fallen, storm-damaged or unwanted trees; ensures proper disposal.
- Evaluates tree color and texture for any decay or damage; takes samples to a lab for examination.
- Assists with inspection of trees and shrubs with structural, nutritional and disease issues.
- Rescues trees in the event of tree disease, natural disaster or other physical damage.
- Clears trees when needed based on growth patterns.
- Follows all safety procedures in accordance with the Company, OSHA, ANSI, EPA and all applicable federal/state/local requirements and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- One year of experience in arboriculture.
- Working knowledge of climbing harnesses/hardware, ropes, stump grinders, chainsaws, wood chippers, log splitters and bucket trucks.
- Ability to repeatedly lift 25 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop for extended periods of time.
Working Conditions:
- Extensive driving, walking and equipment operation.
- Exposure to: extreme weather conditions, pesticides, fertilizers, pollen producing environment, paint and petroleum products. Working in elevated positions such as: bucket truck or in arborist gear within the tree canopy. Work time expectation, 90% of time will be physical labor, 10% training and misc.
