Municipal Tree Care - Aerial Lift Specialist

Location: Savannah, GA
Salary:

Purpose

This position is responsible for the care and removal of city trees.

Essential Job Functions

• Operates a chainsaw, and heavy equipment, including log loader, brush chipper, aerial lift truck, stump grinder, and dump truck.
• Installs ropes and rigging devices in trees to facilitate safe removal.
• Participates in the planting of trees.
• Grinds stumps.
• Traffic control measure at work sites.
• Participates in site clean-up.
• Inspects and maintains assigned equipment 
• Responds to after-hours emergencies as needed.
• Serves on the city's critical response team.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; minimum one (1) year documentable aerial lift truck operating experience; three (3) years tree maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver's license.
 

Additional Requirements

Valid driver's license; background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.  The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans' preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final scores. 

Additional Information

• Knowledge of tree care and removal procedures and safety techniques.
• Knowledge of tree biology, tree identification and diagnosing tree problems.
• Knowledge of the city's emergency response plan as it relates to the assigned area.
• Skill in the operation of chainsaws, pole saws, aerial lift trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and other job related equipment.
• Skill in the maintenance and repair of assigned vehicles and equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
