Highlights of the 2015 ITCC Tampa Experience

ITCC Logo

The 2015 International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC) took place March 21-22 at Rowlett Park in Tampa, Florida. In addition to the competition, this year’s ITCC offered educational opportunities with demonstrations of safety and best practices, industry vendors, and many activities to engage the public, creating an exciting event for everyone who participated.

A beautiful park, great weather, many loyal, hard-working volunteers, and dedicated ISA staff members provided the perfect package for a weekend of networking, education, and lots of fun.

Here are some highlights of the ITCC weekend:

ITCC

This year’s competition included 58 competitors and 79 volunteers from 18 different countries. Volunteers and competitors were provided additional educational opportunities with a gear inspection training meeting, an expanded event walk-through on Friday focusing on aerial rescue event set-up, and a free advanced-climber workshop organized by the Society of Commercial Arborists on Sunday afternoon.

To recognize the tireless efforts of exemplary ITCC volunteers, ISA and the ITCC Committee introduced the Arthur Bruce Smith Volunteer Spirit Award. A huge thanks to the 2015 recipient, Kristian Schultz.
ITCC Champs James Earhart and Jamilee Kempton

Congratulations to the 2015 ITCC Champions: James Earhart of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter, and Jamilee Kempton, ISA Western Chapter. You can view complete competition results on the ITCC website.

Arbor Fair and Expo

Weekend activities included 30 display booths for both the industry and the public. Exhibitors and sponsors offered products and services for the professional arborists while local organizations provided activities and information for the general public. Besides watching the competition, more than 500 attendees enjoyed bucket lift rides, a limb walk, a fun climb, face painting, birds of prey demonstrations, and “edu-tainment” by Tim Womick and his Tree Circus. See a complete list of activities and exhibitors on the ISA website.

Educational Workshops

In conjunction with the ITCC, ISA offered workshops on a variety of topics including plant appraisal, pruning, and diagnostics, and chain saw and chipper safety. More than 90 attendees participated in one or more workshops held over three days (March 20-22).

ISA was excited to offer these new opportunities to our members, credential holders, and the people of Tampa. We thank the Florida Chapter for their cooperation and assistance in creating an experience that supports ISA’s mission.

We look forward to the 2016 ITCC at Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Texas, April 2-3.
