David and Jared Milarch

Honorary ISA Memberships

David and Jared Milarch

Their work on behalf of champion trees has taken this father-son team all over the world. This year, ISA awards David and Jared Milarch of Copemish, Michigan, with Honorary ISA Memberships for their outstanding effort to preserve some of the most significant trees on earth.

In 1996, the Milarch’s launched the non-profit Champion Tree Project to save the genetics of old forest giants and reproduce them for future generations. Today, this project has produced many archival living libraries of trees, including the 9-11 Memorial in New York City and at the Pentagon.

In 2008, David and Jared Milarch co-founded the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive to carry on the mission of tree collection, research, and production. Their goal is to propagate cuttings from trees, archive their DNA, and promote reforestation to reverse the threat of climate change.
