Presentation Description

Title: OAK AND US

Summary: This presentation is a brief history of the relationship between people and oak trees (Quercus sp.). Human appreciation for oaks is not a romantic delusion. Distribution of oak trees is coterminous with locations of settled civilizations of the northern hemisphere. An intimate relationship has existed between oaks and people for at least 12,000 years: for food, agroforestry (since Neolithic), trade, structure, Viking ships, sailing ships. Oak knits the world together.
