Title: i-Tree 3.0 Workshop: An applied look at the inventory and analysis tool for urban forests

Summary: This 4-hour workshop will provide an in depth overview of the latest release of "i-Tree: Version 3.0" software, a suite of software tools developed by the USDA Forest Service and their cooperators. The workshop is aimed at both new and existing users of the software. The i-Tree software suite is in the public domain and freely accessible through a public-private partnership with the Forest Service, ISA, Davey Tree, the National Arbor Day Foundation and the Society of Municipal Arborists. i-Tree includes several inventory and analysis management tools to assist urban foresters, planners, and resource managers in carrying out urban forest and greenspace assessments. The body of this workshop will provide a stepwise introduction to the newly released version (3.0) of i-Tree focusing on the following elements: 1) “i-Tree Streets”, that uses new or existing tree inventories to quantify the annual benefits of street tree resources for energy conservation, air quality improvement and property value impacts, in comparison to resource management costs; 2) “i-Tree Eco”, designed assess the urban forest’s effects on air pollution, energy conservation, carbon storage, and water quality and steam flows; 3) “Species Selector”, which aids users in selecting proper species given the environmental tree functions they desire; and 4) “Storm Damage Assessment Tool,” which can be used to determine the costs associated with the costs of clean-up of tree debris, related to major storm disasters. This workshop will conclude with a presentation of how others have successfully used i-Tree to advance urban forest management in their communities. Time will be allotted for questions and answers sessions and a look toward the future of i-Tree—its development and opportunity for collaboration.
