Title: The Cost-Benefit Ratio of Tree Preservation

Summary: In two separate construction projects, the costs of tree preservation were identified and compared to the benefits of preserved trees. All tree protection costs were documented and calculated from project inception through completion. Preserved trees were identified and measured, and their value was calculated in terms of compensatory value and ecological benefits. People directly affected by the construction were interviewed regarding trees, their social benefits, and tree removal. The value of preserved trees was found to significantly exceed the increased project costs at both locations, and interview analysis showed overwhelming support for tree preservation. A model has been created which allows developers to assess tree preservation and determine project costs and benefits.
