Title: The ABC’s of Human Safety Behavior

Summary: In order for a tree care professional to be productive, an understanding of behavior as it relates to safety is essential. This presentation introduces the ABC model of behaviorism – Activator, Behavior, Consequence – to the field of arboriculture. After establishing baseline knowledge of the model, participants will use a pictorial list of work practices to pick activators and consequences using their understanding of behaviorism. The audience is an integral part of the presentation and a hands-on demonstration is performed using climbing and rigging ropes to show the human thought and action process. Hypothetical questions are posed and discussion is facilitated regarding all areas of tree worker safety.
